Rosti Group is taking bold steps towards achieving Zero Waste, a core objective of our Sustainability Strategy.  

By examining all aspects of our operations—from internal processes to contract manufacturing for clients—we aim to make significant progress in reducing our environmental impact. Central to this is a structured approach to eliminating waste which is underpinned by a waste hierarchy, innovative practices, and collaboration with stakeholders.

A Comprehensive Waste Hierarchy

We have developed a hierarchy framework to shape our efforts to eliminating waste.

1. Prevention and Reduction: Proactively reducing waste generation at its source through improved processes and material management.
2. Preparing for Re-use: Identifying opportunities to re-use waste or scrap material in future production.
3. Recycling: Implementing robust recycling programs to ensure materials are reintegrated into the production cycle and eliminate waste to landfill.
4. Recovery: Exploring ways to recover energy or materials from waste that cannot be recycled.
5. Disposal: Treating disposal as a last resort, aiming to minimize waste sent to landfill.

This systematic approach ensures every aspect of waste management is reviewed, enabling our team to identify opportunities for improvement in our operations, production facilities, and customer partnerships.

Designing for Recyclability

Innovation is at the heart of the Rosti sustainability journey. We continue to invest in advanced plastic injection moulding capabilities to enable the design and manufacture of fully recyclable products and parts. By working closely with clients, our engineers ensure that recyclability is embedded into the design phase of products, giving them the best chance of achieving zero waste in the product lifecycle.

Importantly, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of product quality and manufacturing efficiency while meeting regulatory requirements. This balance is achieved by adopting cutting-edge methods and processes that enhance both sustainability and operational excellence.

Operation Clean Sweep

We are proud to be an active participant in Operation Clean Sweep, an international initiative to prevent the loss of plastic granules, flakes, and powders into the environment, since 2017. The company continuously reviews its operations to introduce measures that eliminates pellet loss. This includes stringent housekeeping practices, employee training, and equipment upgrades to ensure that no plastic material escapes into the surrounding environment.

Reuse of Material

A key focus of the zero-waste strategy is the reuse of material. Collaborating with customers, we explore innovative ways to recover and reuse scrap material in future production cycles. By doing so, the company reduces the amount of scrap sent to waste and the demand for virgin materials. This initiative not only decreases environmental impact but also provides cost-saving opportunities.

Sustainable Packaging Solutions

Packaging is another area where we are making strides.

• Analysing and adopting returnable packaging solutions, especially for contract manufacturing operations that involve logistics support.

• Collaborating with material suppliers to reduce waste associated with inbound goods.
• Using recycled packaging materials and improving recycling rates for cardboard and single-use plastics.
