Jonas Persson shares insights into Sustainability & the Future of Injection Molding

Jonas Persson, Rosti CEO, shared his insights and thoughts on the future of injection molding and how sustainability has become a core aspect of their business strategy.
As a market-leading injection molding company, it is critical that Rosti leads by example when it comes to their people, customers, stakeholders, and our impact on the world.
Jonas shares his personal thoughts on the current market and how Rosti is moving forward with their sustainability strategy.
Where do you see the plastic injection molding market in the next three years?
There is always a persistent and growing focus on injection molded parts, products, and components across a wide variety of industries.
We are proud to work closely with leading and innovative brands in the Life Sciences, Consumer, Business Machines, Industrial, and Packaging sectors. This drives us to continuously improve and innovate when it comes to injection molding capabilities.
All of these markets have an ongoing need for plastic injection molded products—which will only continue to increase in the future as we see other materials being replaced by plastic.
The key focus for the injection molding industry is “the environment.” There will be an even greater emphasis on the circular economy and the need for us to take care of plastics.
Our management team is already working to accelerate the use of green materials to help our customers lessen their impact on the environment. The reuse and recycling of plastics wherever possible offer both sustainability and cost reduction benefits for all our customers.
In the years ahead, it’s our responsibility to lead in the innovative design, development, and manufacturing of plastic injection molded products to help our customers move toward an environmentally friendly world.
One change I do foresee is the growth in 3D printing capabilities where small quantities are needed. We are leveraging the potential of 3D printing in our Innovation Centers, which are key to reducing time-to-market for customers and ensuring products and parts are production-ready the first time.

What are your personal opinions on being carbon neutral and why is sustainability important to Rosti?
As we all know, sustainability has been talked about for many, many years, but only now are we seeing real action being taken to make a significant change in how our actions affect the environment.
When it comes to sustainability, we need to practice what we preach. To make a real difference, clear targets and goals are required, combined with an internal drive to achieve set and defined objectives.
We are seeing a significant push from customers who are addressing their own environmental impact, which is translating into our work with them when producing plastic injection molded products.
If our customers are determined to be leaders in their own markets and with their customers when it comes to sustainability, Rosti has to be there with them from the start as their partner to develop environmentally friendly products and reduce carbon emissions generated during production.
Everything starts with design—it must be a design-led focus on reducing the environmental impact of an injection molded part, both during production, in how it is used, and at the end of its lifecycle.
We support our customers and our customers’ customers. The consumer or end user who buys goods from our customers is increasingly trying to be environmentally conscious. This increases the need for our manufacturing processes and materials to be as green as possible.
Rosti is aiming to use only green energy across our eight production facilities, which will be a major step in our sustainability strategy.

What are you most proud of about Rosti?
Rosti’s high ethical standards are what I am most proud of as the CEO. I’m impressed by how we continually treat people—staff, customers, stakeholders, and suppliers.
By working together, we build meaningful and productive working relationships, resulting in high-quality and innovative outcomes. This is mutually beneficial for everyone.
For me personally, we treat everyone at Rosti equally, giving our teams a real sense of belonging. This is essential as a global organization—that we all strive toward the same goals.
Of course, our sustainability efforts are very important to me, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. We are constantly reviewing, reinventing, and evolving our processes from an environmental perspective.
Rosti customers are always foremost in our minds because they’re a vital part of everything we do.
