Scott Dickson, Technology & Innovation Director at Rosti Group, shares his insights on how we are leveraging AI to enhance our global plastic injection molding capabilities.

What new technologies might we see in 2025?

Responding to valuable customer feedback, we are actively advancing several new development initiatives focused on AI and sustainability. By the end of 2025, we plan to complete a proof of concept for our internal AI system, which will go through large-scale testing at one of our sites before being rolled out globally. The focus is on using our internal knowledge more efficiently to further decrease time to market for new projects.

In addition, our new AI-based product carbon footprint analysis tool will be rolled out across our innovation centers, enabling our teams to evaluate and reduce the environmental impact of the products we manufacture. This will let us precisely track our progress toward achieving our Sustainability goals and potentially identify other areas for reducing our environmental impact.

How is AI making a real impact on plastic injection molding?

AI is transforming plastic injection molding in several important ways—from virtual assistants that streamline knowledge management and speed up time to market, to fast production data analysis that improves yield and quality control.

Advanced AI-driven inspection methods proactively detect and predict defects before they arise. By integrating the latest machine technology from our partners, we use AI-powered process control to optimize manufacturing parameters for each component, ensuring both accuracy and efficiency.

Where do you see AI and injection molding in 3–5 years?

Over the next 3–5 years, we anticipate that AI will play an even more transformative role in factory operations. It will enable comprehensive predictive maintenance systems to maximize equipment uptime, autonomous real-time modifications to molding processes to prevent defects, and overall more energy-efficient production.

These advances will not only optimize performance, but also drive more sustainability throughout the entire manufacturing process through smarter resource use.

How do you help and influence customers to adopt new technologies in partnership with Rosti?

Our structured Technovation process offers a managed and systematic approach for testing new technologies, ensuring they reach the right technical readiness level for production. The success of this process relies on a deep understanding of customer needs and pain points.

Using these insights, our global Innovation Centers develop advanced solutions that boost the value, quality, and performance of the final product—not to mention its sustainability attributes.
