Rosti Group’s Sustainability Strategy – doing what’s right
Sustainability is no longer just a topic spoken about in an aspirational way. Putting measures in place that truly impact the environment is now a top priority on the global agenda.
As a plastic injection molding business, Rosti is responsible for making sure our operations, behaviors, and the products we make have little to no negative impact on the environment.
Sustainability is a key part of our ‘Concept to Reality’ value proposition, with a wide range of sustainable solutions built in right from the concept stage to ensure every aspect is as environmentally friendly as possible.
We are thrilled to welcome Ian Farquhar, Head of Sustainability & European Operations Director, to the Rosti team to lead our Sustainability Strategy both internally with our people and externally supporting customers in reaching their green goals.
As Ian works to advance and drive the Rosti Sustainability Strategy forward, there are four main areas Rosti is focusing on –
Lighter products = less material
With smart engineering and design, we help customers reduce the weight of their products to use less material, without sacrificing performance or product lifespan.
Lighter products save on the raw materials needed and the energy required to manufacture them. This reduces the energy required in the injection molding process and makes the products easier to recycle when it’s time for disposal.
Another benefit is that it cuts down on emissions produced during transportation.
Recyclable products
We work with customers to design and manufacture products that are 100% recyclable. Rosti already makes products using 100% bio-based resins which we’ve tested, analyzed, and approved for use in production. Decorated products have traditionally been hard to recycle because of the mixed materials used in decorative film layers. Our innovation teams have developed mono-material technologies allowing for high-quality decoration while still providing a product that’s 100% easily recyclable.
Developing solutions for the circular economy
We have to look beyond just the sustainability profile of the products we make and our injection molding processes.
Using our global engineering experience, we partner with customers to review every part of a product to make sure it supports a circular economy—from conception and design to recycling and reusability.
Rosti teams up with customers to take into account the whole lifecycle impact of their products. This includes solutions for recovering and remanufacturing components into new products. We’re proud to already have partnerships where we recover products from the field, restore components, and return them to the market. This approach has a huge impact on carbon emissions.
Increasing the use of recycled material
Replacing virgin material with recycled alternatives doesn’t have to compromise quality or performance. Rosti has the engineering and technical expertise to produce high-performing products from recycled material.
This not only creates a major change for meeting sustainability goals but also opens significant opportunities to cut costs.
