Operation Clean Sweep

Rosti Group is a signatory to Operation Clean Sweep (OCS). As part of the program, we strive to eliminate resin pellet, flake and powder loss.

This is an ambitious goal, but we recognize the damage that plastic can cause in the natural environment, and we are committed to handling resin pellets responsibly.

Taking practical steps to eliminate pellet loss

A kilogram of resin contains around 42,000 pellets, and Rosti uses circa 55,000 tons of pellets every year, so being accountable for all the pellets we use requires a concerted effort.

One of the first steps we took was to make sure that every drain in all of our factories are fitted with steel mesh grids that prevent any loose pellets from washing into the water ecosystem. These drains are checked every week, to make sure they are clear. If a significant number of pellets are found, then an investigation is done to find out the source, and corrective action is taken.

The role of education and training

Our commitment to minimizing pellet loss extends to all our production facilities throughout the world. Therefore, we have ensured that the relevant employees in all our sites have been properly trained to understand the importance of handling plastic resins responsibly. Training sessions have also been extended to external contractors (such as drivers and distributors), to ensure that environmentally sound procedures are followed throughout the entire value chain.

Beyond production

The Rosti Group’s sustainability efforts are not restricted to the factory floor. We are committed to supporting sustainability throughout the supply chain, from raw materials to finished goods. Initiatives are ongoing to reduce material consumption and energy use, improve recycling, and positively impact the communities where we work.

About Operation Clean Sweep

Established in 1991, Operation Clean Sweep is a program administered by the Plastics Industry Association and the American Chemistry Council. They produce reports, audits and guidelines for implementing best practices for keeping plastic materials out of waterways. Hundreds of plastics companies across the world have signed the Operation Clean Sweep pledge to prevent resin pellet, flake, and powder loss.
