At Rosti Group, sustainability is at the heart of our operations, and one of the most effective ways we can reduce our environmental impact is by addressing emissions. Energy consumption represents a significant portion of emissions within our value chain, making it a key focus in our commitment to sustainability.
The Importance of Renewable Energy
Through extensive analysis, we identified that 15% of our total emissions were linked to energy consumption. In 2024, our total energy consumption across the group reached 77GWh, of which 43GWh was clean energy, representing 56% of our total usage. This now presents us with a clear opportunity: by converting the remaining energy to renewable energy, we could make a substantial impact on reducing our overall emissions.
Factory-by-Factory Approach
As sustainability becomes an increasingly important factor for businesses, more of our customers are engaging with their suppliers to understand their renewable energy commitments. At Rosti, we believe in full transparency, and we want to showcase our energy transition journey—factory by factory. This approach enables our customers to make informed decisions about where they want their production to be based, depending on the sustainability credentials of each site.
Collaboration and Challenges
To accelerate our shift towards renewable energy, we have collaborated with existing suppliers, transitioning from clean energy sources such as nuclear to fully renewable alternatives. However, navigating the dynamics and availability of energy markets across different global regions presents unique challenges. Despite these complexities, we have made significant progress.
Progress and Future Goals
During 2024, we have successfully transitioned three of our sites to fully renewable energy sources, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. Specifically, our production sites in China, Germany, and Clearfield (US) have secured 100% renewable energy for 2025, with Romania and Poland continue their long held track record of 100% Renewable Energy. Additionally, our Gislaved site in Sweden has successfully switched from 100% nuclear (clean energy) to 100% renewable energy, further reinforcing our commitment to greener energy sources.
Furthermore, our Turkey site continues to make strides in self-generation, producing 10% of its energy needs from its own solar infrastructure. These efforts demonstrate our dedication to sustainable energy practices across our global operations.
As a trusted partner to global customers, we understand the need for flexibility. Many of our customers operate in multiple markets and require suppliers who can support their sustainability objectives regardless of location. By prioritising renewable energy adoption across our sites, we aim to provide them with the confidence that their production aligns with their environmental commitments.
Looking Ahead
Our commitment for 2025 is to increase our Renewable Energy to 75% of total usage, which in reality we expect to exceed 85%. This goal reflects our commitment to accelerating our transition to cleaner energy sources and further reducing our environmental footprint.
Our transition to renewable energy is an ongoing process, and we are committed to making continuous improvements to reduce emissions and drive sustainable production. By working closely with customers and suppliers, we are shaping a more sustainable future—one factory at a time.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to expand our renewable energy initiatives and make further strides in our sustainability commitments.
