Forensic engineering, a factory built mid-program and 250 components delivered across two countries

Some programs seem difficult from the outside. This cassette program was truly difficult from the inside, and the people who delivered it deserve to have the full story told.

When this program is summarized, it tends to focus on the headline numbers: 250 production-ready components, two manufacturing sites, six months to production. Those numbers are impressive. But they do not capture what made this program truly extraordinary.

The real story starts earlier, goes deeper, and involves a level of engineering complexity that most contract manufacturers would never have agreed to take on. This is that story. Rosti plastic injection mold new banking terminal – Rosti

From Local Supplier to Global Engineering Partner
Supporting a Global Manufacturing Strategy Through Production Transfer

How has the relationship evolved from initial engagement to today, and what expanded the scope over time? What triggered growth in programs, regions, or technologies?

The partnership began in May 2023, when a global technology company initiated a strategic shift to relocate their injection molding supply from Asia to Europe. This nearshoring and localization strategy was driven by supply chain resilience, sustainability objectives, and the need to align production more closely with regional electronics manufacturing partners.

Rosti entered at a pivotal moment, positioning itself not only as a plastics supplier, but as an engineering-led injection molding partner in Europe. From the outset, the engagement was engineering-led rather than purely commercial. Cross-functional teams were involved from the first meetings, including DFM engineering specialists who presented advanced injection molding technologies, sample parts, tooling strategies, and manufacturing capabilities. Rosti North America supports Customer Transition to Sustainable Optical Lens Production

Rosti’s collaboration with a leading Tier Supplier began in 2017 when they sought to expand and diversify their supplier base.

We have recently collaborated with them again to explore new molding capabilities for their optical lens components and identified Rosti as a partner with proven expertise in hot runner injection molding.

The project focused on developing a more sustainable and cost-efficient production method for a precision optical lens.

Our customer wanted to eliminate the significant runner waste created by traditional molding methods and achieve cost savings, while maintaining the high optical quality required for their components. After 24 months of development, the project is now in full production. Sustainable Optical Lens Production Transition in America – Rosti

Rosti UK: A Reliable UK Base for High-Quality Plastic Injection Molding

Expertise in relocating injection molding production

A recent localization project with Abingdon Health demonstrates how Rosti UK supports customers looking to establish or strengthen U.K.-based manufacturing. As part of a wider supply chain resilience strategy, production of a key plastic component was successfully transferred to Rosti’s Stamford Bridge facility, located close to Abingdon Health’s manufacturing operations in York. This proximity enables faster communication, shorter lead times, and reduced exposure to supply chain disruption.

From initial discussions to full production, the transfer was completed in just six months. This speed was driven by close collaboration between both teams and Rosti’s structured NPI process. Early in the program, Rosti delivered rapid prototypes within 72 hours, allowing the design to be tested, refined, and de-risked before moving into production tooling.

During validation, Rosti’s engineering teams optimized the component for manufacturability, improving efficiency and consistency while maintaining the required performance. The project was underpinned by Rosti UK’s recently awarded ISO 13485 accreditation, reflecting the strength of its quality systems, process control, and disciplined approach to manufacturing. While this accreditation supports customers operating in regulated environments such as medical and healthcare, the same standards and attention to detail benefit customers across all sectors. Advantages over competition

1. True end‑to‑end manufacturing partnership, not just molding

Rosti’s strongest differentiator is its full lifecycle ownership, from concept through to global delivery.

We offer integrated support across:

  • Concept and design-for-manufacture
  • Rapid prototyping and tooling
  • High-precision injection molding
  • Cleanroom and regulated manufacturing
  • Automation, assembly, testing, and packaging
  • Global production transfer and logistics

This “from concept to reality” model positions Rosti as a resourceful partner, not a subcontractor, which directly sets us apart from competitors that focus primarily on molding or only on regional production.

2. Global manufacturing network with real production transfer capability

Rosti operates as a unified global manufacturing network, not a group of isolated sites.

Key advantages:

  • Facilities across Europe, Asia, and North America
  • Shared engineering standards and unified quality systems
  • Ability to relocate tooling and production between regions
  • Replication of validated manufacturing cells across continents

Many competitors claim a “global presence,” but very few can move validated medical or regulated production without re-qualification risk. This capability is consistently highlighted as a differentiator in Rosti’s medical and pharmaceutical content.

3. Rapid innovation and speed-to-market capability

Rosti combines deep engineering expertise with speed, reducing development timelines and commercial risk for customers.

Benefits include:

  • Innovation centers in Europe, Asia, and the US
  • Rapid 3D prototyping and sampling
  • Agile, iterative design process
  • Early design optimization to avoid late-stage tooling changes

This enables customers to physically test parts in days, not weeks, which is a major competitive advantage over traditional molders and slower global suppliers.

4. Strong and expanding cleanroom and medical manufacturing platform

Rosti has made proactive, well-documented investments in medical-grade cleanroom manufacturing across all major regions.

Key strengths:

  • ISO Class 8 cleanrooms in Europe, Asia, and North America
  • Integration of cleanroom production into the broader manufacturing network
  • Ability to support both high-volume and specialized medical products
  • Ongoing expansion driven by customer demand, not reactive capacity

This global cleanroom footprint, combined with production transfer capability, is something very few competitors can match at scale.

5. Scalability across volumes, industries, and product complexity

Rosti is structurally designed to support:

  • Early-stage prototyping
  • Mid-volume specialist production
  • Multi-million-unit global programs
  • Complex, multi-material, and tight-tolerance components

This makes Rosti suitable for long product life cycles, from launch through maturity, reducing supplier changes and operational risk for customers. [rosti.com]

6. Sustainability embedded into the manufacturing offering, not bolted on

Unlike competitors that treat sustainability as a reporting exercise, Rosti integrates it directly into:

  • Design and redesign phases
  • Lightweighting and material optimization
  • Energy-efficient tooling and automation
  • Global emissions reduction and clean energy commitments
  • Transparent sustainability reporting

This allows customers to achieve measurable sustainability outcomes, not just compliance statements, making Rosti particularly attractive to OEMs under CSRD and ESG pressure.

7. Financial stability and long-term ownership model

Rosti’s ownership and growth strategy provide customers with:

  • Long-term investment security
  • Stable financial backing
  • The ability to invest ahead of demand
  • Confidence in multi-year and multi-site programs

This differentiates Rosti from smaller regional players and private-equity-driven manufacturers focused on short-term returns. [Rosti Bran…al and CVI | PDF]

8. “Big enough to cope, small enough to care”

A recurring competitive advantage highlighted across Rosti content is the balance between:

  • Global scale and technical depth
  • Accessibility, responsiveness, and partnership mindset

Customers benefit from enterprise-level capability without enterprise-level bureaucracy, which is often cited as a pain point with larger competitors.

Ideal for

Rosti partners with product-owning manufacturers that need a reliable, global manufacturing partner from concept to large-scale production.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

Simply put:

An OEM is the company that owns the product, the brand, and the customer relationship.

They:

  • Design and define the product
  • Decide how it should work, look, and perform
  • Sell it under their own brand
  • Are responsible for quality, compliance, and lifecycle

Rosti does not sell products to end users.

We help OEMs turn their ideas into products that can be manufactured and scaled.

Tier 1 supplier

Supplies directly to the OEM

Delivers finished components, assemblies, or sub-systems

Works closely with the OEM’s engineering, quality, and procurement teams

Rosti is ideal for companies that:

  • Own a product or brand (OEMs)
  • Need more than just plastic parts
  • Want a long-term manufacturing partner, not a short-term supplier
  • Operate in regulated, technical, or high-precision environments
  • Need to scale production globally without changing suppliers
  • Care about sustainability, compliance, and lifecycle responsibility
